The art of making Shaker Oval Boxes is popular in America. Crafting classic Oval Shaped Boxes from steam bent wood is not as difficult as could be imagined.
Our courses are held in a traditional workshop and are limited to a maximum of four students per course.
The course fee includes the cost of all materials, use of tools and a light lunch.
Please send us your choice of course, four dates which suit you in preferential order together with your contact details. We will confirm the date that best suits our schedule and a 50% deposit will be required to secure the date. The balance to be paid 7 days before the course. Full details of venue etc will be sent on receipt of your deposit.
Course 1
£75 per student
The course, which will last one day, will introduce students to the basics of making Oval Boxes
Cutting and bevelling swallow-tail fingers will be covered. The bending and tacking of the box and lid-band, followed by the shaping and fitting of lids and bases will complete the course. Participants should have made two Shaker Boxes to take home by the end of the day.
Course 2
£75 per student
An advanced one day course allowing students to tackle more complicated boxes
A detailed list of projects will be provided, covering larger boxes and fixed-handle oval carriers. A choice of project must be made in advance to ensure materials will be available in the workshop.
It is recommended that students have attended Course 1 before enrolling on this course.
